Road to Santiago






Pamplona is the first capital city along this Jacobean route to Santiago. You come into the city over the mediaeval bridge of the Magdalena and cross through the walled belt of the city via the gateway named the Portal de Francia. After visiting the Cathedral and crossing the Town Hall Square, pedestrians come to the Church of San Saturnino, which houses the Pilgrim Hostel.

El Camino prosigue rodeando los fosos de la Ciudadela y continúa por el barrio de Iturrama hasta el The Road continues on around the moat of the Citadel and through the district of Iturrama out to the campus of the University of Navarra. From here the route continues on to Cizur Menor and then on to other towns in Navarra.

In Puente la Reina the two most travelled roads in Navarra meet up, namely the road from Valcarlos and from Yesa. Marked by a monument to the Pilgrim, Puente la Reina is a necessary stopover point on the route.

In Los Arcos, you can find the Church of Sta. María, whose plateresque tower is one of the most beautiful in Navarra. Finally, the Jacobean route comes to Viana, the last milestone along the road as it passes through Navarra.
